Tasting notes
This bottling benefited greatly from the very cool growing season preserving the acidity and fresh fruit flavors. This is true display of Santa Ynez Valley Chardonnay. The old-vines produce very small clusters and low yields which translates into intense flavors and mouthfeel. The resulting wine is always full of complexity and has the ability to pair with many types of food.
Production notes
Casa Blanca Vineyard old vines planted in 1971 and own-rooted. Pre-Clonal. Estate grown and farmed organically. Picked over a two-week period in mid-October. Grapes were gently pressed and juice settled in tank for two days before racking into barrel. Made in the traditional Burgundian style, native barrel fermented for three weeks and aged on lees for 10 months prior to bottling. Roughly 50% completed ML.

This corner of the Santa Ynez Valley is not particularly known for Chardonnay, but the grape very much succeeds in this bottling. Aromas of lemon glaze, lime pith and flaky croissant lead from the nose into a tense, chalky palate of apricot, pear and creme fraiche flavors.  — Matt Kettmann

A beautiful wine, the 2023 Chardonnay was stored in oak for ten months before bottling. This is rich and viscous stuff with buttercream and shades of poached pear with pineapple notes on the palate. Offering good length, enjoy now and over the next eight years. Drink 2024-2032 92 points — Owen Bargreen
