Nolan Ranch, Alisos Canyon
Our inaugural vintage of Mencia. This wine was made in the same spirit as our Pinot Noir. Medium-bodied with deep flavors of strawberry and raspberrry. A versatile wine to be enjoyed with meals. It can be laid down for years to come.
Picked the second week of September, four days into the heat wave that defined the vintage. Sorted and gently whole berry destemmed, cap management with very gentle pump overs during cold soak, and foot treaded during height of fermentation. Aged on fine lees in neutral barrels and Damy barrels for 16 months prior to being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine, 90 points There's a lot of excitement around the potential for this Spanish grape on the Central Coast. This bottling begins with sultry aromas of berry, thyme, anise and wet rock on the nose. The palate is awash in roasted fennel, toasted herb and baked black-plum flavors. — Matt Kettmann
A truly unique wine, the 2022 Koehler Mencia was stored for 16 months in neutral oak before bottling. Inky in the glass this offers concentrated black and red fruits with a smooth texture and salty soils. Delicious now, enjoy over the next eight to ten years.
