2021 Magia Nera
Tasting notes
A blend of 60% Sangiovese and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from our organically farmed, own-rooted vineyard block planted in 1973—a testament to both heritage and sustainability. Aromas of cinnamon, licorice, and cherry lift from the glass, leading to tart red fruit and warming clove on the palate. Drink now through 2034.
Production notes
The 2021 vintage was defined by a cooler, milder growing season, allowing for extended hang time and a mid-November harvest at peak ripeness. After 100% destemming, the fruit underwent fermentation in open-top vats, then aged on the lees for over two years in 50% new French oak, developing remarkable intensity. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, this wine reflects the purity of its origins, showcasing the brightness and savory edge of Sangiovese alongside the structure and richness of Cabernet Sauvignon.

"The 30% new French oak makes itself very known on this toasty blend of 60% Sangiovese and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas of gingerbread cookies, cinnamon, licorice and sour cherry lead from the nose into a palate of tart red fruit, sumac and prominent clove, cinnamon and mace spice." —Matt Kettmann
